Immersive Wellness Using Sensory Design

Immersive Wellness

Wellness is on the rise and continues to permeate into our homes, workplace and just about everywhere else. It began as a trend and has now grown into an economic powerhouse industry, serving a variety of consumers including corporate wellness, hospitality, travel, mobility, retail and real estate. The same cannot be said for immersive technologies, albeit its market share continues to grow, it has failed massive adoption by both consumers and businesses.

Most immersive technologies were born out of the gaming and entertainment sector, and even though they continue to approach other markets, something seems to be missing. Over the past two years we’ve observed that a large amount of people seem to be responding more favorable towards immersive spaces, from fitness clubs to museums exhibitions. This got us thinking... How can we improve wellness-driven design using immersive technologies? It was questions like these and conversations with leading scientists, sensory delivery technologists and industry executives that led us to “Immersive Wellness”.

At Arigami we are developing new solutions for many existing unfulfilled use cases using a combination of sensory technologies, biometrics and creative design to improve our well-being. Functional, modular, and hyperpersonalised spaces designed to reduce stress, provide focus and promote creativity. We believe that by embedding immersive technologies into spaces, powered by a multisensory framework along with wellness-led content, provides new cost-effective opportunities that will further engage customers, guests, members, staff and patients.

As with other environmental factors (like weather and biophilia), lighting, scent and sound play a pivotal role in our daily lives. Immersive Wellness will require much more than just a couple of LED screens, a scent dispenser and some plants. While most design firms are pursuing this market, they lack a sophisticated integration strategy that combines wellness, science and technology. That’s where we come in, effectively creating a seamless experience between sound, temperature, colour and other sensory modalities. We start by focusing on behavioural impacts and outcomes, quantifying them using biometrics, coordinating sensory providers and finally scaling projects from pilots to market.
